Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em: Series 1, Episode 6 (Summary)
The Psychiatrist
First Aired: 22-03-1973
Written by: Raymond Allen
If you have every wondered how Frank and Betty Spencer got together, Episode 6 of Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em fills in some of the blanks and tells how they first met.
As the opening credits roll (well, slide across the bottom of the screen) Frank is very busy losing yet another in his long line of jobs. This time he was a fireman, but the other firemen end up having to free Franks rear end from between some metal railings.
Frank is very upset by the experience, he feels that he is a failure and he cannot sleep. However when Betty rolls over expecting to put her arm around him, Frank is not there. He is on the floor. Standing on his head. Doing some yoga. This is quite a surprise for the poor woman, but at least she now knows what he meant when he told her that he wanted to try out some new positions.
Frank is a little hard to live with at times, but Betty loves him and she suggests that, if things are worrying him that much he should go and see a psychiatrist. So Frank does just that. And worries the psychiatrist instead.
While he is talking to the psychiatrist, though, Frank recalls how he and Betty met (at a riding school) and his disastrous first meeting with Betty’s mum. When he met Betty, Frank was living with his aunt and it is strangely sad to see how little his aunt seems to think of him, which makes it all the more touching that Betty loves him and accepts him no matter what faults he might be.
