Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em: Series 1, Episode 5 (Summary)
The Hospital Visit
First Aired: 15-03-1973
Written by: Raymond Allen
Betty has been in the hospital for a few weeks so Frank has been fending for himself.
Judging by the state of the kitchen the poor man has not been managing very well on his own. In fact, if the outcome of his attempt to cook a steak and kidney pudding is anything to go by, it is wonder that he has survived so long without his wife. He decides to have a salad instead. well. a tomato anyway.
When Frank arrives at the hospital, Betty is very pleased to see him but, after he has had a few mishaps, she starts to look a little stressed.
Of course, Frank does his best to sort out all of the problems that he has caused but, as usual, he just ends up making things worse.
The Hospital Visit is, probably the funniest episode of the first seriesof Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em. Frank is constantly getting hold of the wrong end of the stick and misunderstanding people and, towards the end of the episode, there is an absolutely hilarious sequence where he is pushing around a hospital trolley full of suitcases while Betty and the rest of the women from her ward rush along with him, thinking that they are going home.
They shouldn’t be going home though, and there is little chance of their going anywhere anyway because Frank keeps getting lost. In the end he decides to take a rest and sits down on the trolley to think things through. The only problem is that he is at the top of a slope and is soon riding the runaway set of wheels towards the laundry chute. Then it’s down the chute, onto another trolley and into the back of an ambulance. Dear, dear, dear… some mother’s do ‘ave ’em.
